Where is the path of the brigands?
The Briganti Trail runs through two regions, Marsica (Abruzzo) and Cicolano (Lazio), which were precisely lands of "Briganti" settlements. It is passable in seven days between Abruzzo and Lazio.
The path is about 100 km long and has a loop shape.
Start and finish in Sante Marie, within walking distance of the medieval town of Tagliacozzo. Passing through val de varri, marsica and cicolano at medium altitudes. These are the areas of the old papal state and Bourbon kingdom.
The route coincides with historical places where Briganti bands were located, such as the Cartore band and the Salto band. The Brigantes can be called rebels or better yet, partisans.
Finding themselves between two states, the Papal and the Bourbon kingdoms, they switched sides depending on the threat. They struggled against the threat of the Sabaudis who forced the people into the army.
The Brigantes were best known for their violence, kidnapping, and even murder at the expense of middle-class families.
Itinerary path of the brigands?
The itinerary of the Brigantes' Trail can be traveled on foot, by mtb bike or horseback between 800 and 1300 m above sea level and can be finished in a week.
A unique experience at a time of wild lands and medieval villages to learn about the history that lies there. There is the possibility of staying overnight in a tent at theFarmhouse "Il Timo" , which is equipped with special facilities, or in rooms provided in the various villages.
The walk can be done in company, with groups of people of all ages and with our four-legged friends. There is the possibility of contacting special guides for support and safety during the walk.
The Abruzzo towns covered are Rosciolo de' Marsi, Magliano de' Marsi, Scurcola Marsicana, Tagliacozzo, and Sante Marie. One of the most beautiful stretches is from Valle del Salto, Duchessa Lake to the mountain slopes of Velino.

Accommodations are reserved within the farmhouse with beds for guests. They are spacious and equipped with all amenities. They are located on the first floor. They have a spacious outdoor veranda with a beautiful view of the surrounding countryside and mountains.
All accommodations are constructed of wood and are 100% earthquake-proof. Some chalets have air conditioning.

It is located within the Mount Velino Oriented Nature Reserve. It is a protected natural area of the Abruzzo Region established in 1987. It occupies an area of 3,550.00 ha on Mount Velino, in the territories of Magliano de' Marsi and Massa d'Albe. Close to the ski slopes.
